Winter Woodland

Posted on May 5, 2015

Diana Mackie, Woods 2

The woods in winter offer a completely different mood. The intricate leafless branches and woodland floors are open to view.
The delicate textures of the various lichens offer a selection of misty greens and blues that blend into the misty qualities of a chilly low lit day.
The subject tests the interpretation through oil painting medium.
The joy of oils offer this flexibility.
Many layers of thin applications building up to a raised texture I hope gives a sense of close examination, almost a 3D effect to highlight the delicate lichens adhering to the tree trunks.
